Last Day to Donate Food!! We Love Long Beach and Food Finders have teamed up for a pre-Thanksgiving food drive aimed at engaging the residents of Long Beach and encouraging them to give back to their neighbors in need. Drop off non-perishable food or boxed food at one of the Food Drive drop off locations close to or in Bixby Knolls:

Historical Society’s Main Gallery – Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness (2000) @ 6:00pm
The Historical Society of Long Beach was chosen by the International Documentary Association to serve as one of the host sites for its traveling documentary film festival. They will be joined by the producer of that night’s film Sugihara: Conspiracy of Kindness, Diane Estelle Vicari. Ms. Vicari will introduce her film and, after the screening, conduct a discussion with questions from the audience. For more information call HSLB at 562.424.2220.

LongFellow Elementary – Grand Opening of the Sunday Farmers Market @ 9:00am – 2:00pm
A new neighborhood gathering place launches on Sunday, November 22! The market’s theme is sustainability – of the schools, the environment, and our sense of community and civic engagement. The market’s fundraising goals are to support green initiatives in our local schools.
Come out for fresh produce, prepared food, a coffee cart, the tot lot, workshops on art, gardening, cooking, and recycling. Walk or bike over for a family-friendly and secure environment to mix and mingle.
Longfellow Elementary School Playground – Pie Baking Contest @ 11:00am – 12:00pm
Judging begins at 12:00 p.m. Come join us at the first Long Beach Sunday Farmers Market and the fall harvest by showcasing your best loved pie recipe. Entry is open to bakers of all ages! Restauranteurs welcome!
Deliver your pie and a copy of your original recipe (or your favorite recipe with the source sited). Multiple submissions welcome. Pies will be judged by a jury of your peers. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded and all recipes will be included in the Long Beach Sunday Market Cookbook!
